Where you at the Newbury Bypass protest camps?

As part of the Newbury Bypass documentary a film maker is researching, he has created
a draft map of the proposed route circa 1996. He needs help with several things;

- Are there any locations missing from the list?

- Is the list of locations in the correct
order and position?

- Are there any locations listed that actually didn't
exist ;-)

You'll find some of the locations don't have a 'tree' marker on the
map, as I'm not sure about position/order yet...

Tough love for media - Jeff Jarvis

Starts slow but well worth watching in full. This is also a good description of the visionOntv project.

Jeff Jarvis: "Google is not an enemy, Google is a model" from Carta on Vimeo.

Grandmother's Sweet Peas

Early in the morning, hand in hand ,

we went naked to the orchard land.

With chamber pot, along the cinder path, her and me,

warm sun on our bodies as brown as can be.

Behind high stone walls, nobody could see.

In 1943 my grandmother said to me

“Not a good idea to put your pee in the sea.

It makes flowers grow and its free,

But it pollutes the sea.

Go to Hopes Nose, in Torquay.”

We went in the car, its not very far

We slid down the grass under the pine trees

My father took me to see,

the brown stain curling out to sea.

In the 1950s as young teachers in Nottingham we saw the city so proud,

of treating its waste, selling it and spreading it on the land around.

In Southampton on hot sunny days in 1963

our children could not play on the golden pebbles by the sea.

The gulls had a feast, a tomato plant forest grew for all to see

as The Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary and other ships

discharged their waste into the sea,

The children had to play on the bomb sites with me,

Broken houses open to the sky, garden and wild flowers gone awry

where to mice cowered, between the showers ,

we found treasures from lost lives. (not so long since1945.)

At the end of the road we were tempted to look at the shore ,

They could not keep their hands off the shells and the stones

My children were so sick and I said to the shore no more.

In 1968 we painted the Sewer in Scarborough which got rid of Sewage cheaply.

Out of its threepenny bit concrete mouth it spat the sewage onto the beach,

with pink and green toilet paper it trickled through the rock pools to the sea.

Our painting was exhibited in the local art Gallery and at Surrey University.

With my children in Wales in 1973

We used the compost toilets at the National Centre for Alternative Technology

We lived in Borth in a concrete box by the sea

It was built by an avantgard architect in 187O's

It was swept by the wind and bleached by the sun

It was at least three miles to the nearest tree.

We had our sewage disposed of free.

A well built system with two septic tanks.

Gently sloping salt glazed pipes, set in the pebble bank

In bikinis and wellies we could rod them ourselves.

And jump in the sea afterwards to get rid of the smells

In 1989 we drove the backroads from Aberystwyth to Brighton by the sea

to attend the bitter revisionism of the Conference of the Labour Party.

We stopped at all the watercourses big and small

We could smell and see pollution in one and all.

In 1995 our WILPF train crossed the border to China,

going to the UN Womens Conference in Beijing,

out of 240 women the Americans were king

They knew the Chinese used night soil to grow crops,

American hands and voices were raised in horrors and shocks ,

and they said we are not, we are not, eating a thing!

The length of the train what a fuss and a din

I said where is the sea to put the pee in?

The sea is not a dustbin!

An oldie at Pembroke Market in 2003

shared her memories with me.

With the earth closet she used as a child

Their Potatoes and tomatoes grew prolifically

Sustainable as we used to be.

Today on my daily walk round Castle pond,

I still smell sewage on it's way to the sea.

On hot days children jump in and swim .

In 2009 with world oil running out

oil fertilisers in doubt, no longer about,

Bob Flowerdew would agree

Now we all need to live sustainably.

Thalia Campbell. October 2009

My grandmother and parents sparked an early, life long interest in waste disposal.

Help send an ambulance to gaza next month

Ingrid Bousquet

On the 5th of December, I and 2 other women, Janet Hussain and D. Murphy (members of Swansea Palestine Community Link), from Swansea will embark upon a 2000 miles convoy to the Middle East, bringing aid to the refugee camps of Gaza. We are seeking public donations to purchase an Ambulance and critical medical Aid.

More than two hundred vehicles including ambulances, fire-engines, refrigerated trucks and vans filled with much needed Humanitarian Aid (medical, maternity and post natal supplies, as well as supplies for schools) will leave London bound for the people of Gaza, who are lacking most of the basic necessities.

The Convoy organised by Viva Palestina, a registered charity, and the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) will travel through Belgium, Luxembourg,, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Egypt before entering Gaza. For those who live in any of these countries, I'll let you know exactly where we stop if you want to come and meet us along the way.

As well as delivering Aid, the objective of the convoy is to raise awareness about the siege of Gaza, to show solidarity with the Palestinian People.
Members of SPCL have previously visited the Palestine Trauma Centre in Gaza, who works mainly with traumatised children. Those on the Convoy hope to meet with them again, and fundraise for their Centre when they return to Swansea in January 2010.

YOU CAN SHOW YOUR SUPPORT BY MAKING A DONATION TO:
Swansea Palestine Community Link Co-op Bank Account
Sort Code: 089299- Account No.: 65141771- Ref: GAZA

In Guantanamo

Watch the video
Guantanamo naval base, "Gitmo", covers forty five square miles of Cuba inside an area under a controversial 'permanent lease' to the United States. Since 2002, the base has become synonymous with its detainment facilities for suspected terrorists. Although Barack Obama has given orders for the detention camp to be closed, the facilities remain open to this day. David Miller's quiet, powerful film is the result of three days the filmmaker spent touring the camps in May 2008 as part of a small group of media representatives allowed there. Although the event was presented as a chance to 'see inside' the working of Guantanamo, it was in fact a carefully staged PR exercise designed to yield predictable, stale, controlled media images. http://vodo.net/ingitmo

Using direct action the perimetre fence was breached and pulled down, despite the heavy police presence. 52 people were arrested that day. One protestor and three police officers were reported injured, one seriously.

BNP MEP Nick Griffin + KKK Terrorist

BNP chairman Nick Griffin speaks to an audience of American Nationalists alongside convicted fraudster David Duke of the blatantly Nazi American terrorist group the KKK, who have been responsible for dozens of savage killings and hate crimes in the USA.

In his speech Nick Griffin confirms that BNP strategy is to re-package and "sell" BNP ideas to British voters. Nick Griffin confirms that, instead of using traditional far-right slogans about terror, hate, authoritarianism and violence, the new BNP strategy is to use "saleable words" like "freedom, security, identity, democracy" instead, while reassuring his (small) pro-KKK audience that the BNP's secret and real beliefs are still "your ideas too".

Nick Griffin admits that the long-term BNP goal of forcibly expelling all non-White Britons from the their homes is, for the time being, best served by "being rather more subtle" - because in the short-term, the BNP being HONEST about their real beliefs would get his party "absolutely nowhere". BNP chairman Nick Griffin dreams of a day when the BNP will "control the British broadcasting media", and when British people will (as a result) have been tricked into electing the BNP. In other words BNP chairman Nick Griffin dreams of a day when HE will control the British media, and when British people will have been tricked into electing HIM.

Proper use of a Taser?

PUT THE FUN BETWEEN YOUR LEGS: Become the Bike Bloc

Everything we take for granted: the weekend, gay rights, contraception, women wearing trousers, the right to strike, to form a union, the abolition of slavery. Everything was won by disobedience, fought for by people who refused and resisted, claimed back from those in power. Their disobedience was a gift to our future.

Every form of rebellion we know, from protest marches to lock-ons, barricades to boycotts, factory occupations to street parties, super glue actions to climate camps was invented, dreamt up and designed. More often than not, by a small group of people huddled together, laughing and creatively conspiring with each other; engineering the art of resistance.

The Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination and Climate Camp are plotting together to design and build a new tool of civil disobedience for the RECLAIM POWER mobilisations taking place in Copenhagen, during the UN climate summit in December. Made from hundreds of recycled bikes, The Bike Bloc will merge device of mass transportation and pedal powered resistance machine, postcapitalist bike gang and art bike carnival.

Bike hackers, welders, climate campers, artists and engineers will be working together to design and build The Bike Bloc across two cities: Bristol (Arnolfini Gallery 15th 30th Nov.) and Copenhagen (4th- 18th Dec.) Come and take part, either designing and building the prototype in Bristol, putting together the real thing in Copenhagen or swarming with us on the day of civil disobedience on the 16th of December.
