Video Israel Doesn't Want You to See

JERUSALEM - The Israeli army has expressed a note of contrition after a television station aired a videotape showing an army assault on a Palestinian home in which a mother of five children died.

When CBC News spoke with Ismail Hawarjeh at Bethlehem's hospital earlier this month he told about how his wife had died, until Israel's Channel 2 broacast the tape last weekend

Viva Palestina convoy reaches Syria

Viva Palestina Convoy Arrived In Syria

Friday, December 25, 2009

It's Christmas morning here, but we are not in Egypt as we expected, but
in a car park in Aqaba. After lulling (some of us) into believing we
could pass, the Egyptain authorities told the Ferry Captain that we would
NOT be allowed to disembark on the Eyptian side.

They have given us 3 options:

1. We leave the aid here for the UN to deliver and go home.
2 We MAY go across as foot passangers but no aid can be carried, and even
then we won't be allowed to Rafah.
3. We go by boat to Al Arish, but still not to Gaza.

All ludicrous suggestions. We have already travelled over 3,000 miles, WE

Now I know it's Christmas Day and all, but as soon as you get a minute
PLEASE e-mail, phone, fax the Egyptian Embassey, get in touch with your MP
(easy to find and use, WRITE TO THEM), and local media too.

In the meantime we have a Football Match between the Turkish, Syrians,
Palestinians, Jordanians on one side and the Us and Europeans on the
othere, this afternoon, and home-made entertainment in the car park in the
evening culminating with a ceili!(if I can remember the moves)!!

This must be the strangest Christmas Day ever, but the messages on the
blog, on Facebook, and the e-mails have been heart-warming. Keep them
coming, we need your support now more than ever.
Christmas Greetings from the Swansea Aunties on the edge of the Red Sea.

Our real enemy is not the ones living in a distant land whose names or policies we don't understand; The real enemy is a system that wages war when it's profitable, the CEOs who lay us off our jobs when it's profitable, the Insurance Companies who deny us Health care when it's profitable, the Banks who take away our homes when it's profitable. Our enemies are not several hundred thousands away. They are right here in front of us

Website design, process and structure

Some thoughts on

Back ground reading

The website design is very static, with the social media after the fold were the majority (probably 90% ) of visitors will not generally see it. A few points:

* People don’t seam to be empowered to update the social media part of the site as the blog is generally out of date.

* The “CC online” part is opaque on how to use it and possibly very out of date – the current feed is to ?

* The twitter account is updated by one person generally.

While putting energy in to content IS A GOOD THING, process and structure is also necessary to sustain this energy.

Secret History of Silicon Valley

Today, Silicon Valley is known around the world as a fount of technology innovation and development fueled by private venture capital and peopled by fabled entrepreneurs. But it wasn't always so. Unbeknownst to even seasoned inhabitants, today's Silicon Valley had its start in government secrecy and wartime urgency.

In this lecture, renowned serial entrepreneur Steve Blank presents how the roots of Silicon Valley sprang not from the later development of the silicon semiconductor but instead from the earlier technology duel over the skies of Germany and secret efforts around (and over) the Soviet Union. World War II, the Cold War and one Stanford professor set the stage for the creation and explosive growth of entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley. The world was forever changed when the Defense Department, CIA and the National Security Agency acted like today's venture capitalists funding this first wave of entrepreneurship. Steve Blank shows how these groundbreaking early advances lead up to the high-octane, venture capital fueled Silicon Valley we know today.
