Italy closes the door on justice

In 2001 more than 300 000 people came to Genoa to stop the G8 meeting. Many suffered extreme police violence. 7 years later the trials are coming to an end. The mayor of the city of Genoa has invited the people to ask for public reconciliation. 25 people were sentenced for up to 11 years of prison for property damages such as breaking windows compared to sentences of a maximum of 5 years for the 76 Italian police officers under trial so far. 15 have been found guilty for torture and systematic abuse of authority.

Some key characters from the Diaz trial

Dr Enrico Zucca the prosecutor

Sky (Mark Covell) - Plaintive, pushing the court hard to conclusion
Massimo Pastore – Sky’s lawyer

Judge Barone

Sky out side the court in a rare moment of relaxation.

Some thoughts

I just whont to touch on two subjects for VOTV that people need to think about.

Firstly is the centrality of RSS and "podcasting" to the project. We get told all the time that the future of the web video is streaming - think Youtube. This article from Mashable (one of the most successful social media blogs in the world) looks at this issue and concluded that if you arent doing RSS then "Bottom line - if you’re working with video online: by all means have a web strategy, but if you don’t understand podcasts and RSS, be prepared to fight with one hand tied behind your back." LINK

And an article about editorial issues - looking at Wikipedia "The bottom line, however, is that Wikipedia is an incredibly fast source of news on not only important events but also on a million little things such as the color of the lightsaber, and having to wait for editors to go through all that might make Wikipedia a bit dull. Hopefully, the final solution they come up with will manage to avoid that." LINK

That is two things that makes us different is RSS and creative editorial system.

Words and meaning

Genoa - am staying just in front of the church tower.

Monday, July 14, 2008

Am in the http://www.processig8.org/ office were they are just processing the video evidence to prove that the police lied about another 2001 Genoa G8 case – the traffic cameras tell a very different story to the police arrest report. The court cases are just coming to an end 7 years latter.

Its looking like the 300 people detained at Bolzaneto will receive €100,000's in compensation for the police abuses on them while they were in prison, and the Diaz victims millions of € in compensation.

Can you photograph/video a bouncer who is being aggressive?

A storm in East Oxford Community Center. Green Party Councilor Mary-Jane Sareva responsible for police arresting two people on false charges.

Genoa 2008 - the end of the court case?

Back in Genoa to make a news short:

"42 Police officers will be sentenced this month in Genoa (Italy) for a brutal attack on demonstrators protesting against a G8 summit in 2001.Undercurrents filmed exclusive images of the Police raid becoming key evidence during the 4 year court case. The trial featured torture by Police and officers planting ‘war weapons’ on demonstrators to justify their unprovoked attack."

VisionOnTV - Editorial line

The project will have a very strong editorial center. To allow this to continue to function as the project expands this strong center will be aided by automation and user selection – but the final decision on what is broadcast will always rest with the central editorial crew.

For the first 6 months the core Visionontv crew will be able to handle the quantities of video submitted, produced and aggregated with minimal help.

After this when things start to take off we will need: Automated and user quality control.
We have a video drop box which we don’t broadcast directly but volunteers can monitor and vote/rate submitted videos as they arrive – this will help to sought videos by quality and subject. This will have the affect of directing different subject videos to different members of the editorial crew and reduce the number of videos they have to deal with. As sadly the majority of videos we are likely to receive will be unusable.

It took me a while to work out why I didn’t like Zaproot

It’s because Zaproot is light greens selling supposedly ecological solutions.

Were we need to have a show of dark greens supposedly selling ecological solutions.

As neither show will be directly about the root courses – then at least the dark greens will have a more radical viewpoint on the eco-trash that is sold as solutions – so the under text of the show will be much more strong. Zaproot is candy floss for greens – we need to be butter glazed carrots – they are both sweet but one at its core has a root vegetable were the other just chemicals and industrial sugar.

Basically both are/will be money making shows – social change is secondary to cash potential – in this we shouldn’t be promoting other peoples money making – we should be promoting our own otherwise we are not sustainable.
